A belated Happy and Blessed New
Year to all of you! It is hard to
believe we have already come this far along in the school year! November and December seemed to fly right
by. Now will come the long, cold (?) winter
months….we shall try to move the often-dreary days along by adding some extra
fun with our preschool activities!
We began the New Year in
preschool last Tuesday with our lesson on Winter Clothes. We are learning a song that will help us get
dressed for outdoor play more quickly and independently. Most of the children are coming along nicely
with this – I can tell some of them have been practicing! J
This past Thursday we studied stars and the season of Epiphany. Epiphany is from a
Greek word, meaning to “reveal” or “make manifest”. This is our time to focus on the revelation
of “who” Jesus is: both true God and
man. On the Festival of Epiphany,
January 6, we read Matthew 2:1-11 which tells us of the visit of the wise men
who bowed down in acknowledgement that this infant was indeed the Christ, Son
of God.
THANKYOU During our
“Birthday Party for Jesus” in December, our classes showed their love for others in need by donating to Carol’s Cupboard, the OSLC Food Bank.
Thank you for your generosity! Our
appreciation goes to everyone who
gave items for the children’s treat bags and to the families of Allie Bailey
and Jack Mihelich for our delicious Birthday Cakes for Jesus!
We welcome Samantha Fairo to our
afternoon class. Samantha will join us
for the first time on Tuesday, January 10.
Please note that now puts our PM snack number at 15.
Special days this month that you
will need to prepare for:
Tuesday, January 17 – Blue Day Children should wear blue and
bring in a blue show and tell to share.
Thursday, January 26 - Outdoor Play Day Hopefully, we will have a nice amount of snow
and the temperature will be such that we can comfortably spend at least an hour
outside. Your child will need to arrive at school completely dressed for
outside play. When class time begins, we
will go directly outside and stay out as long as we continue having fun! Children may bring snow toys such as sleds,
pails and shovels. Please label these
items with your name. Given the lack of
snow this winter, I may change the date on this as needed and will email
everyone ahead of time, if so.
Tuesday, January 31 - Square Day Your child is invited to bring
in a square-shaped “show and tell” item of their choosing to describe to their
classmates.
Looking ahead to February:
Tuesday, February 1 - Preschool Preview 6:30 PM This is for families who are new to our program and may have
questions about a typical day in our preschool.
If you are currently enrolled in Threes, you need NOT attend unless you would like to meet Mrs. Vieregge. Both
four-year-old classes typically fill to capacity, so I would encourage you to
sign up for the 2012-2013 school year as soon as registration opens so you can
reserve your spot. More information on
registration will be coming home soon.
Tuesday, February 14 – Mom’s Valentine Tea/children’s card exchange
Moms are invited to join us in the classroom for the last hour of class time to
enjoy special songs by the children along with treats and tea. Please make plans for this now – if you are
unable to attend, a grandmother or other special lady in your child’s life is
welcome to stand in for you.
Tuesday, February 21 – No School – Winter Break
Tuesday, February 28/Thursday, March 1 – Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parents may sign up for an optional 20 minute conference with me. Appointments will be available on Tuesday evening or all
day and evening on Thursday, March 1.
Classes will meet Tuesday, but not Thursday that week.
May the Love and Joy of the Christ Child remain in your hearts, keeping you
safe and warm this winter.
In God’s Love,
Lori Austin
